I heard the ding of the forks to my left as I became aware of my surroundings again. When I turned toward the hill, Hermione was standing there with the trio of tuning forks still working away. Harry, Ron, and the son were a few steps away chatting as they walked up the gravel path toward the heart of “it.”
“Thanks for waiting,” I said as Hermione finished her final round of ringing.
“I figured you were finishing up what you needed to do, and I wanted to make sure the angels were still here doing what they need to do,” she said.
I quickly learned that these small metal pieces were called “angel forks,” and according to the team, they were used to help remove dark energy while summoning light. I could see why. Their piercing, high-pitched tones would drive any dementor in the area crazy—and we were heading straight toward crazy.
When we met up with the other three, Harry and the son were chatting while Ron stood still, staring at an old screeching oil pump next to the path.
“What are you noticing?” Hermione asked Ron.
“It’s trying to communicate with us,” he said.
“What’s it saying?” Harry asked.
“It doesn’t like us being here—it’s moved up there around the corner,” Ron said, still staring intently toward the hill.
As we walked past the cranking pump, I could feel the pain in the soil. An intense sorrow tugged at my heart, and with every step I silently addressed Mother Earth:
I'm so sorry.
When we reached the top of the hill, there was a noticeable shift in the air. It was cool and dense. The drizzling rain stopped.
“That’s the place,” the son said, pointing to a flat circular spot with a large rock in the center. “That’s where I saw the sacrifices taking place in my dream.” He then pointed to an adjacent spot just outside the circle. “Over there is where the guard was standing who talked to me about all the souls. He told me he was in charge of keeping an eye on them,” he stated with conviction. He paused, then added, “I got the sense he didn’t want to be part of all this.”
Strangely enough, I didn’t feel anything.
No fear.
No wonder.
No curiosity, either.
I was simply taking in the information.
“I think he was coming to you in your dream because he knew you have a big heart and would do something about this.” Hermione’s assessment made complete sense to me as we all nodded.
“Use the Reiki symbols around the perimeter,” Harry noted, “and remember to call upon the distant one to close out this portal.”
A portal?
Wait, what?
And just as I had those thoughts, I saw what looked like an iridescent, translucent wall shimmering along one edge of the circle. It disappeared when I stepped closer.
“I'm going to get closer and demand that it leave,” Harry stated as he began beating the drum. And with his Jesus-like appearance, I don’t think any entity would mess with his determination and grit.
It was clear to me we were not leaving until this thing was gone.
Ron stood back near the path with the son while Hermione and I walked around the circle, staying a few feet outside its perimeter.
She struck the forks while I scattered the peppercorn seeds Harry had given me.
After a few minutes of listening to the drum and conducting our own silent work, something changed.
“Do you feel that?” Hermione asked.
She didn’t have to explain; I knew what she meant. There was a noticeable shift in the air, or rather a lift.
I nodded.
“It’s easier to breathe,” I said.
“I think it’s gone,” Hermione said, beaming.
I smiled back.
We turned to Harry who had now stopped playing. As we walked toward him, I noticed Ron was now standing beside him, smiling.
“Shhh! Look!” Harry whispered, pointing at something through an opening in the trees.
And there, standing about twenty feet away, was a fawn staring back at us.
The only thing moving was its tail, flicking back and forth.
The sight of this baby sent a surge of love through me, especially when its mother stepped out of the trees to join it.
“This is unbelievable,” I said, just as something beside me caught my eye.
As I turned toward Hermione, who was now standing beside me, several monarchs fluttered behind her.
I shook my head. The whole scene seemed like something straight out of The Wizard of Oz.
I whispered and pointed, “And look at that!”
“Oh my god, butterflies!” Hermione said.
“This is Mother Earth telling us we’ve done our job,” Harry said.
Looking at the deer, the butterflies, and the sudden break in the clouds, I couldn't help but wonder if he was right.
As we walked down the hill, the air was noticeably lighter.
Dumbledoris was now standing by the maple tree with a large grin on her face.
“Did you notice the vortex closing up there?” she said, pointing to the spot with her cane.
“We sure did!” Ron said as we laughed, recounting what had just happened.
When we went into the house, there wasn’t much more we needed to do. Whatever had happened on that hill, everyone seemed to agree that the essential work was done, but we made our rounds anyway. Hermione and I gave Reiki to the family members while Harry, Ron, and Dumbledoris cleared the rooms.
Our last action of the day was the blessing, a ceremonial event where we all stood around the table, lit a candle for thanks, and recited a prayer of love to the Universe. When we left, we hugged the family. I felt their gratitude.
It was an honor to serve in this way.
And strangely, I felt as though I had received far more than I had given.
Somewhere along this yellow-brick road, I had entered a world I hadn't known existed—not on that hill, or in that house, but somewhere inside myself. A place where I didn't need to understand everything before I could experience it.
Maybe that was the real clearing that took place that day.
As I climbed into the van, I looked back at the house one last time.
Portals. Entities. Angel forks. Reiki symbols. A drum. A fawn. Monarchs.
And to think, I'd signed up because I wanted to learn how to smudge a house.
So much for smudging.
Thank you for taking the time to read my "three part series" of an event that was truly remarkable to me...one that will never leave me but certainly transformed my beliefs. With love, Sonja
